DATASET 1 · FAO LCCS 2010 FRAMEWORK · 10 M RESOLUTION

Land cover 2025, northern Afghanistan

Area and period: Balkh, Jawzjan, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, Kunduz and Takhar provinces, 2025.

Content: 11 land cover classes aligned with the FAO LCCS 2010 framework, at 10 m resolution, with overall accuracy by province (Jawzjan 93.7%, Takhar 89.4%, Samangan 85.6%, Balkh 85.4%, Kunduz 85.0%) and 23,216 reference points.

Seasonal crop maps 2023, Khulm Watershed

Area and period: Khulm Watershed, spring and summer 2023.

Content: Crop type maps for each season at about 10 m resolution (87% spring accuracy and 88% summer accuracy), with crop area statistics in hectares (32,650 ha across Lower Fan, Middle Valley, and Upper Tributaries).

Area and period: Northern River Basin (Shirin Tagab, Sar-e-Pul, Balkhab, Khulm–Aibak), seasonal and annual, 2001–2020.

Content: SPI, land surface temperature (LST), snow cover (NDSI), NDVI and VHI maps and station records derived from NASA POWER, MODIS and 18 hydrometeorological stations.

Our open data are shared under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence. You may use, share and adapt them, including for commercial work, as long as you credit LSGA.

Accuracy and limits

Every dataset comes with its accuracy assessment. The maps show land cover and conditions at the stated resolution. They are not survey-grade maps and do not show legal or administrative boundaries.
